Catholic Education - The Start of Something Great

Bishop Kmiec's Coat of Arms

July 28, 2008

Dear Friends in Christ,

I hope that you and your families are enjoying this summer as much as I am. Summer in Western New York is a much treasured time - family gatherings, festivals and days for relaxation. Our choices are indeed many.

Few choices in life are more important than deciding where to send your children to school. The education they receive has a lasting impact on their lives. If you haven't fully decided where your children will attend school this fall, I strongly urge you to consider Catholic education.

I know that all parents want to give their children the benefit of an excellent education. But for Catholic parents that's only the beginning. You also want your children to learn the values that will influence them for their entire life. That kind of faith-based education takes place every day in our Catholic schools. While preparing your child for future success, a Catholic education also teaches your child to lead a Christ-centered life. Our dedicated caring teachers nurture the whole child - mind, body and soul - providing religious instruction and opportunities to live the faith that families cherish. Students in our schools clearly benefit from superior academics. In our schools students traditionally outscore those from other schools in their region on New York State Math and ELA tests in fourth and eighth grades.

Each of our schools has a website that you can visit to learn more via http://www.wnycatholicschools.org. While at the website explore our newly updated Diocesan core curriculum.

It is not too late to enroll your children in one of our outstanding Catholic schools. I encourage you to tour a school near you and to talk with parents of current students. I know you'll agree that Catholic Schools provide an education you can have faith in.

Please join our Catholic schools for The Start of Something Great for your child.

Sincerely in Christ,
+Most Rev. Edward U. Kmiec
Bishop of Buffalo
